2015-18

1. TEACHING STANDARDS ESPECIALLY IN WRITING

Strategy

  • Achieve and maintain consistently high standards of teaching 
  • Improve progress and achievement in writing across each year group 
  • Become a “beacon” of writing excellence

  • Lesson observations by the Head and Senior Leadership team 
  • Moderation of assessment by other staff members 
  • Book scrutiny by Head and Senior Leadership team 
  • Thorough analysis of available data 
  • External adviser’s annual report 
  • Exploiting CPD opportunities especially in relation to writing 

Benchmarks

2015-16

  • All lesson observations assessed as good or outstanding
  • Governors-sponsored Writing Awards night in summer term
  • All children to make at least expected progress in writing

2016-17

  • 30% of lessons to be assessed as outstanding 
  • Writing SATS results to be in top two quintiles nationally 
  • No gender disparity in writing standards 

2017-18

  • 40% + of all lessons to be assessed as outstanding 
  • Writing SATS in top quintile nationally 

  

  

  

2. OUTDOOR LEARNING PROVISION

Strategy

  • To exploit existing space creatively to maximise opportunities for outdoor learning 
  • To liaise with Diocese to claim church land and integrate into school site

  • Increased playground /outdoor space
  • Feedback from school adviser/OFSTED

Benchmarks

2015-16

  • Reclaim presbytery yard to increase space
  • Create secure storage facility for outdoor equipment
  • Maximise usage of elevated grassed area on infant playground

2016-17

  • Extend infant playground to Station Road boundary
  • Ensure access to outdoor areas not confined to certain age groups

2017-18

  • Look at other opportunities for outdoor development including the school field
  • Ensure indoor space is optimised to deliver a full curriculum offer.

 

 

 

3. ENGAGEMENT WITH STAKEHOLDERS

Strategy

  • Identify various stakeholder groups and establish strategies for improved communication
  • To improve marketing, publicity, and our visible presence in our community
  • To ensure our school leavers are adequately prepared for high school in every way

Evidenced By

  • Increased hits on website and use of social media
  • Formal and informal interaction with all stakeholder groups
  • An annual survey of all of our school leavers
  • Increased responses to parent surveys/ communications
  • An annual children’s “Question Time.”

2015-16

  • Appoint a Marketing and Communications Governor
  • Appoint a Transition Governor to focus on our leavers
  • Appoint a Stakeholder Government to improve liaison with groups
  • Termly meeting/dialogue with staff
  • Appoint young Associate governor to reflect younger attitudes

2016-17

  • Hold an “open” full governing body meeting
  • Create surveys for all stakeholder groups and act on responses where appropriate

2017-18

  • More applicants than places at Parent Governor and Staff elections
  • A permanent under- twenty five governor
  • Governing body wholly representative of our community

 

 

 

4. GOVERNING BODY EFFECTIVENESS

Strategy

  • To ensure we have the right people and use skills and experience most productively
  • To ensure plans are in place to allow for succession arrangements for Chair and Committee Chairs
  • To know our school better and improve flow of information to other governors concerning our specific areas of responsibility

2016-17

  • Cluster governors forum formed meeting termly
  • Hold “open” full Governing Body meeting
  • New Foundation Governor appointed (under twenty five?)

2017-18

  • New Chair of Governors appointed
  • Ensure all action points from previous inspection are being, or have been, addressed.
