Special Educational Needs and Disability

We welcome all children in St Charles' School.
Our Inclusion Policy which details the provision we make for those children within our school who are recorded on our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Register can be found by clicking on the link above. This policy follows the Code of Practice 2014.
The school works hard to provide for any child who has a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND). Parents are fully involved in their child's provision and the creation and evaluation of Individual Education Plans. A confidential record of children with SEND is kept in school and parents are informed if the school has any concerns about their child.
Ofsted reported in 2020: "Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) achieve well. Leaders work effectively with external agencies and charities. They have been successful in applying for bespoke equipment for pupils with disabilities. Leaders meet pupils’ needs well. Pupils with SEND learn alongside their classmates. They have full access to the curriculum."
If your child or a child you care for has SEND and you would like to find out more information or want to speak to someone for advice and support, please make an appointment to meet with Mrs Lord, the school SENDCo.
All areas of our school are accessible for people with disabilities. We have ramps in place to move from the main entrance through to the hall, Reception and Year 1 classrooms. We also have lift access to our classrooms upstairs enabling those with disabilities to be fully included in all aspects of school life. If you are visiting our school and want to discuss our access arrangements, please contact Mrs Holden in our school office and she will be more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have.
SEN Local Offer
The Local Offer is a document that schools are being asked to produce detailing areas of Special Educational Needs that they specialise in and the facilities that they have.
If you have any further questions once you have read our Local Offer, please contact the school office.
Useful Contact Information
Help and advice about special needs can also be requested from a Family Liaison Officer.
